Description

Fort Pratapgad is a witness to Shivaji Maharaj's prowess. Afzal Khan was killed by Maharaja at the foot of this Pratapgad. Afzal Khan, who came to Swarajya with a huge army, was called by the Shivaji Maharaja for a meeting and as soon as the fight broke out, he was killed by great bravery. With the help of a handful of troops, Gorilla war technics (Ganimi Kava) defeated Afzal Khan's massive army at the Battle of Wai. Pratapgad is one of the forts built by Shivaji Maharaj.

With the belief that we are getting success with the grace of Bhavanimata, Shivaji Maharaj erected a temple of Bhavanidevi at Pratapgad and established an idol. There is a lamp in front of the temple. Pratapgarh also witnessed the bravery of Jiva Mahale who took the attack on Maharaj upon himself. The saying 'Hota Jiva Mhanun Vachla Shiva' became popular since then. Even today, one can understand that Pratapgad, surrounded by dense jungle, was not only difficult, but impossible to conquer.
