Description


The area spread across Koyna and its tributaries was declared a sanctuary in 1985. A wide variety of indigenous and tall, evergreen trees like Mango, Purple, Ain, Mad, Umbar, and Anjan grow here. Also, plants like curry leaves, shikakai, bay leaf, and wavding are also found here.

The sanctuary is home to animals like bears, tigers, leopards, jackals, wild boars, Hyenas, jackals, monkeys, wolves, sambars, goats, sheep, peacocks, rabbits, etc.

Due to the provision of shelter and food in the dense forest, animals are found in large numbers here. Along with animals, birds, such as Sarpagaruda, Bulbul, Kotwal, Suryamukhi, Peacock, Sutar, Parrot, etc., can be seen here.

This area is covered with thick bushes and there are a lot of ferocious animals, so it is advisable to visit this place with proper information and a knowledgeable person.

The distance from Satara to Koynanagar is 120 km, while Satara and Tapola distance is 100 km.
