Description

Being a princely state of British India, Phaltan has a historical heritage. Sriram Mandir, Jabareshwar Mandir, Jain Mandir and Nimbalkar's Wada are must-visit places here.

The Shriram temple built around 300 years ago is an important landmark of Phaltan. It is situated within the premises of the palace in Phaltan. There are three ‘Deepmalas’ on the temple premises. Exquisite carved wood was used to build the inner booth.

This temple of Shri Rama was built in 1774 by Sagunabai Nimbalkar. The temple is built on a plowing of 1 to 2 meters in height and is of Hemadpanti construction. There is a booth in the temple after going up the stairs.

Here you will find an inscription in Devanagari script on a slate. Black stone idols of Rama-Lakshmana-Sita are situated in the central arch covered with silver sheets. Devotees throng this temple all year. Shriram Rathotsav of Phaltan is a famous event.

Jabareshwar Temple is near Shri Ram Temple. It is built on 1.45 to 1.5 meters in height. On climbing the stairs, one can see the Shiv Linga from the beautiful, huge pavilion. The outside of the temple has many sculptures, including delicately crafted dancers, serpent daughter, venomous daughters as well as ornamental sculptures.

There is a small flower garden behind the temple. The temple has a rare square-shaped Shivalinga. There are two Shalunkas (the stone in the centre of which the emblem of Shiva is placed) on the Shivalinga.

In the stone niche of the temple, a serpent with five claws and her two cubs are carved. In the second niche, there are idols of Vitthal, Rukmini, Nandi, Turtle and Ganapati.
