Description


Makarandgad is also known as 'Saddle Back', as its shape is like that of a horseback. The height of Makarandgad is 1232 meters. This fort is higher than Pratapgad. The dense forest of Javali surrounds this fort and is a habitat for fierce beasts.

On on the top of the fort is the temple of Sri Mallikarjuna Shankar. There are two peaks on the fort. The eastern peak is called Makarandgad. It has no enclosing walls. Climbing to the second peak is difficult and dangerous. This peak is called Madhugad.

From one side of the fort, the town of Mahabaleshwar is visible, while from the other side, the Konkan region and the distant beach can be seen through binoculars.
