Description


Mahabaleshwar, known by various names like Cherrapunji of Maharashtra, or Paradise of the state, is world-famous. Recognizing the bounty of nature here, the British developed this place as a hill station.

Mahabaleshwar-Panchgani is a preferred destination for honeymooners. This place situated amidst dense forest attracts tourists due to its distinctive features.

The Sri Kshetra Mahabaleshwar is a famous place of worship here.

Sri Kshetra Mahabaleshwar Temple was built in the twelfth century by Sanghana Raja of Devagiri. Five rivers, namely Krishna, Koyna, and Venna in the east and Savitri, and Gayatri in the west originate from this place. This Panchganga temple is said to have been built by members of Chandrarao More's family.

This place is mentioned in the Padma Purana. Along with Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Shahu Maharaj, many Sardars and Chandra Rao More are mentioned to have helped in the renovation of the temple.

There is another temple of Atibaleshwar nearby from this place. There are the Bhavani and Krishnabai temples also.
