Rudreshwar Temple Malhar Peth, Patan   |   Temples and Caves

Description

Naralwadi and Yeradwadi villages are close to Malharpeth village on the Karad- Chipalun road. Some caves are dug in the mountains behind Yeradwadi. This place is known as Rudreshwar Devasthan.

A small off-road leads one to the base village of Yeradwadi from where one has to climb up around two hundred odd steps amidst natural surroundings to reach the cave. The carvings on the cave are worth seeing.

A Shivalinga is installed in the centre of this cave. The internal structure of this cave is similar to that of Ajantha Caves. There are 24 pillars around the Shivlinga, standing on a square.

In another cave, there is a stone bench on the right side. This cave is low in size but in good condition. Experts are of the opinion that these caves should belong to the Satavahana period.

Near the entrance of the second cave are some idols, one among them being that of the Lord idol of Vishnu. A Tulsi Vrindavan is built in front of this cave. The surroundings are clean and well-maintained.
