Shikhar Shingnapur Shikhar Shinganapur Temple   |   Temple

Description

Shambhu Mahadev of Shikhar Shingnapur is known as the deity of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj i.e., of Maharashtra alone. This holy place in Mann taluka is 85 km from Satara.

History says that Netaji Palkar, who was forcibly converted to Islam, was purified at this place.

The construction of the temple is Hemadpanti, and many sculptures are carved on it. The main temple has a Swayambhu Shivling. In front of the booth of Nandi there is an idol of Parvati surrendering to Shiva covered with silver sheet. Shikhar Shingnapur is considered to be an awakening shrine.

Traditions/Festivals: Chaitra Shuddha Ashtamis is the wedding of the deity and it is customary to bring water with Kavad (Baskets to carry water from sacred rivers) on Chaitra Shuddha Dvadashis Kavadi and anoint the urine. The ceremony of climbing the Kavadi mountain through the difficult Mungi Ghat is a sight to behold. Devotees from many parts of India visit this temple in large numbers every year.
