Description


Bhairavanatha temple is right at the beginning of entering Kikli village. After climbing 16-17 steps, there is an entrance to the temple premises. There are gods inside him. There are two more temples in the premises, which are on the right side. On the way to the temple from the entrance, seats are built on both sides, and there is a lamp and a pillar on the seat on the left side.

This temple of Bhairavnath is of Hemadpanti style, it has two pavilions and one core on all the three sides. A black stone idol of Bhairavnath is situated in Mahirapi in the right corner of it. The remaining two cores have Shiva lingams. The first pavilion of the temple has little carvings while the outer side is richly carved. In the second pavilion, one idol is carved on each pillar, on all four sides at the bottom. Apart from this, in the middle of the pillars there are sculptures of Ramayana hunting the golden deer, Rama-Ravana war, Sita in Ashokavana, Rama shooting arrows from behind a tree in the Vali-Sugriva war, some sculptures of Buddha, Sheshashayi Vishnu etc. The festival of Bhairavnath here is celebrated on Dussehra. This temple is one of the most beautiful ancient Hemadpanti temples. The distance from Satara to Kikali is 37 kms and can be reached here via Bhuinj Sugar Factory.
