Description


Mardhe village is located near the Anewadi toll booth on the Satara-Pune highway. This village is known as the birthplace of Bal Sitaram Mardhekar, who wrote poems such as 'Ganpat Vani Bidi Pitana...', 'Pitat mele olya undir', 'Kititairi Ratri Nahi Chandanyat Gelo'.

There is a memorial in the village of B.S. Mardhekar. His old house has been converted into a memorial and a library. The poetry of B.S Mardhekar for many inquisitive scholars has been the subject of Ph.D.

Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj had a camp in Mardhe village in AD 1709. Siddhamrita monastery is a magnificent stone structure on the bank of river Krishna. Samarth Ramdas established this monastery.

There are marble idols of Ram-Lakshmana-Sita and Hanuman in the core. On the right are some other brass idols with Lord Krishna. The idol of the tiger-faced goddess made from Shaligrama is beautiful.

Amriteshwar Maharaj, the third abbot of the monastery, composed 'Piyush Ramayana'. He also wrote the Prakrit book 'Tattvazada'. It is said that Siddhamrit University was earlier in this monastery.

Here you will also find the mausoleum of Videhaswamy and the temple of Bhargavaswamy. The distance from Satara to Marde is 16 KM.
