Chandan-Vandangad Satara   |   Forts

Description


These are twin forts and are known as Chandan and Vandan. There is a footpath leading to these two forts from the village of Ibrahimpur. On the way to Chandangarh, a pile of stones can be seen.

The height of this fort is 2200 feet. From the fort, you get a clear view of Wai and Satara.

The fort has extensive grounds, a granary, an octagonal pinnacled Chakreshwar temple, a liquor store-like building, the ruins of the fort's castle and the dargah of Gauspak Baba. It is said that Aurangzeb visited this Dargah.

Vandangad can be reached from Ibrahimpur village. There is a temple of Mariaai Devi on the road.

This fort is divided into three phases, the first arch has an idol of Lord Ganesha carved on it. In front of it is a horseshoe, with elephants carved on it. It is also called an elephant farm (Hattikhana). Its arch has inscriptions in Arabic. One can go to the fort through the last arch.

There is a dargah of Azrat Surkh Abdal Sahab on the fort. There are many graves and mausoleums near it, and the dargah is believed to be 550 years old.

There is a Mahadev temple and seven ponds on the fort. On the lower side of the fort are a temple of Devi and a temple of Bhairavanatha.
