Description


As soon as you enter the town of Wai, popularly known as Dakshina Kashi, one realizes that this town is historic. The importance of this pilgrimage is realized when one sees the cluster of temples on the spacious and beautiful ghats built on both banks of the river Krishna which flows through the center of the village.

Among the many temples on banks of Krishna River in Wai, the Maha Ganapati temple at Ganpati Ghat in Ganpati Ali is the main attraction for tourists visiting Wai. This Ganesha is also known as Dhola Ganesha.

Ganapatrao Bhikaji Raste built this temple in AD 1762. This temple is Hemadpanti, and the Ganesha idol in the temple is very magnificent. History says that this idol was made from a single stone. Besides Mahaganpati, there are other temples like Kashi Vishweshwar, Gangarameshwar, Govind Rameshwar on this ghat.

Kashi Vishweshwar temple can be seen near to Ganapati temple. At the core of the temple is a magnificent Shivlinga. Temple sculpture, Deepmal, paintings on booth are worth seeing.

The Krishnamai festival in Wai attracts tourists from all over the country as well as foreign tourists. This festival is said to have been started by Chhtrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

There are many places worth seeing like Wai Ghat, Shri Vishnu and Lakshmi Temple, Pragya Pathshala and Marathi Encyclopaedia Office, Bhadreshwar Temple, Datta Mandir, Goshala.

A must-see for tourists, the city of Wai is currently famous for filming. Shooting of many Hindi-Marathi films is always going on here. The distance between Satara and Wai is 33 kms, and if you come to see the Wai , would time in your hand , you can see Menvali, Dhom, Mandhardev, Pasrani.
