At a distance of 20 km from Satara, there is a village called Dhadawashi. The village is known as the birthplace of the queen of Jhansi and is also famous as the mausoleum of Parshuram devotee Brahmendraswami.
Situated at the foothills of Merulinga hill, this village is famous for its temple and four lakes.
After Brahmendraswami died, Shahu Maharaj built a grand temple of Parashurama at his mausoleum. The Parashuram temple is Hemadpanti, and the carvings on the summit are eye-catching.
There are four large ponds in the vicinity of the temple. There is a also temple of Vaghjai Devi built by Brahmendraswami here.
Rani Lakshmibai, the queen of Jhansi whose famous words to the British, “Meri Jhansi nahin doongi”, was born on November 19, 1835, in the Tambe family of this village.
