Sitamai Hill Maan, Satara   |   Hill and Temple

Description

Kulakjai is a place just 13 km from Pusegaon, the mausoleum of Sevagiri Maharaj, on the Satara-Pandharpur Road. The hill of Sitamai here is well-known and it is believed by women that this place is a witness to some events of Northern Ramayana.

Sometime after Ravan captured Sita, Rama suspected her and freed her from all bonds, and on the advice of Valmiki, she began to live in this place. Due to the long stay of Sita, this place came to be known as Sitamai's Hill.

Sita is said to have given birth to two princes, Lav and Kush, here. The special significance of Sitamai hill is that only here one can see the temple of Sita alone. There are five small and big temples in the area.

On the day of Sankranti, there is a fair for women to buy various items at Sitamai Hill. This place is mentioned in Rama-Vijaya Granth in chapters 37, 38 and 39.
